Thoughts on Art

I believe the arts are an elemental embodiment of the human spirit.  Every culture everywhere in the world uses the Arts as a means of expression.  The Arts are unique because they allow each individual to express his or her personal voice, yet at the same time, speak a language known to all.  For these reasons, I believe the Arts are absolutely essential to a well-rounded education.  As an art educator, I have worked diligently to build a program that emphasizes art history, aesthetics, and art criticism in addition to studio practices.  I strive to teach content that is significant and meaningful to my students.  As I have gained experience as a teacher, I have had numerous opportunities to think beyond my own classroom.  By working with other art teachers, I aspire to raise the quality of instruction so all students will receive a consistent, challenging art experience.  My goal has always been to instill a life-long appreciation and understanding of art in my students.

Shout It Out

The art room does not keep smocks for health and safety reasons, but sometimes accidents happen.  While the majority of materials we use are washable, some can be tough.  I use Shout Ultra Gel for spot treating and a scoop of Clorox Oxy-magic in every load.  If you are still concerned about your child’s clothing, then students are welcome to bring their own smock to art class.
