Self Portrait Drawing

For their self portraits, 3rd graders took black and white photographs of themselves and used them to draw. They placed a tracing paper over the photos, and viewed them upside down while they drew. They used chalk and charcoal to record the shapes that they saw in their photos.

After they drew the large shapes, they removed the tracing paper and focused on the details and the texture in their hair. When their were done, They cut out the drawing and glued it onto a patterned background.
